If you’re like many Americans, you’re looking for ways of giving back. Volunteering is a great way to help out your own community or visit an exciting, new place while performing an essential service. It doesn’t matter what you’re good at, where you live, or how much time you have—there’s a volunteer opportunity perfect for you.

At Home
Volunteering close to home is the way to go for many prospective volunteers because it allows more flexibility with your time and gives you the ability to give back to your own community. You can tailor your schedule to your needs—it doesn’t matter if you have an hour a week or much more time to devote. The opportunities are endless and varied. Depending on your interests, you can teach kids, work in parks, help the homeless, and so much more.

Abroad
Service overseas calls for getting involved with more intense programs with a sustained time commitment. At the same time, you’ll have the opportunity to see the world and travel, and can have the unique opportunity to visit places you might not otherwise get a chance to see. Keep in mind that some organizations will charge a fee to have you volunteer through them. Still, there’s something for everyone who wants to volunteer abroad, no matter your age or skill set. You can teach English, work on conservation projects, work on programs that educate about HIV/AIDS—there’s something out there for you.

Volunteering is a great way to get in touch with causes you support while giving back. Whether you stay in America or travel abroad, you’re sure to have a fulfilling experience.
