In these tough economic times there are several families and communities that are struggling and need a little extra help. There are several small things that you can do within you community that will help to improve the lives of others.

One of the best ways that you can help is to simply go through the things that you own. Nearly everyone has bedsheets, clothes, old pots and pans, and other household items that they have not used in years. These items can be donated to good will or other volunteer organizations to be handed out to people who need them. The best way to determine if you can part with something is to ask yourself if you have used it within the last six months. If the answer is no, give the item away so someone else can benefit from it.

Volunteering is another great way that you can give back to the community you live in. You might think that you do not have any skills that you could volunteer but that is not true. Many libraries are looking for adults to give free computer lessons. You could also volunteer to work in an organization that interests you like a shelter for animals or you could serve food at a local homeless shelter.

Another way to help boost the economy of your town is to buy local. Many small business owners are suffering in these hard times. Rather than taking a trip to the super market shop at the farmers market or take a walk through local stores. You will mostly like find great buys that are unique to your area.
